Church sets all-you-can-eat breakfast
An all-you-can-eat all-you-can-eat breakfast will be held from 6-10 a.m. Jan. 28, Feb. 11 and 25 and March 11 and 25 at the Walkchalk Salem Baptist Church social hall, 1006 Butler Road in Walkchalk. Cost is $9; children 10 and younger, eat for free. Menu will include cooked to order eggs, sausage, pancakes, buckwheat cakes, French toast, hash brown potatoes, sausage gravy and biscuits, toast, cheese sauce, coffee, tea and orange juice. Spaghetti dinner fundraiser to benefit K-9 Officer Blak on tap in fire hall
A spaghetti dinner fundraiser to benefit K-9 Officer Blak will be held from 3-7 p.m. Jan. 28 at West Kittanning fire hall, 401 Arthur St. Admission is $10 per person, and meal includes: spaghetti, bread, salad, beverage and dessert. Proceeds will offset surgical costs necessary to mend Armstrong County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Officer Blak, an animal which recently suffered an injury. For information, call 724-548-3265.
Dine-in spaghetti dinner offered in church
St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1038 Fourth Ave., Ford City, will serve a dine-in spaghetti dinner from 4-7 p.m. Jan. 28. Meal will include spaghetti with choice of meat or marinara sauce, salad, bread, beverages and dessert. Church sets chili cook-off competition
St. Paul’s Community Church, 2167 State Route 268, Chicora, will hold its annual chili cook-off competition at 5 p.m. Jan. 28 in its facility. There will be chili to taste along with cornbread. Informational meeting planned for grief recovery program
Christ Prince of Peace Parish will offer a free Grief Recovery program. An informational only meeting will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. Feb. 6 at parish office of Christ Prince of Peace Parish, 718 Fourth Ave., Ford City. Sessions will help individuals to recover from a significant loss. Sister Edie Strong, SC, a certified grief recovery specialist with Sisters of Charity, Greensburg, will lead sessions. A minimum of three individuals needed for the program. If individuals decide to take program, it will continue for seven weeks. Join Trout Unlimited, Arrowhead Chapter and Audubon from 7-9 p.m. Tuesdays Feb. 7, 14, 21 / 28 to learn how to tie flies at Buffalo Creek Nature Center, 154 Monroe Road, Sarver. The Armstrong County Community Foundation has announced its online scholarship application access opened Dec. 1 for high school seniors and adult students. Ford City VFW Post 4843 announces Youth Art Contest “Illustrating America.” Entry forms / rules: vfwauxiliary.org/what-we-do/youth-activities. Age categories: kindergarten-second grade, grades: three-five / grades six / eight. Contest rules consist of two-dimensional art on canvas or paper. Watercolor, charcoal, tempera, crayon, acrylic, pen, ink, oil, marker, or other media may be used. Submitted canvas entries are on canvas board or s stretcher frame. Other entries must be matted in white or reinforced heavy paper. Art should be no smaller than 8”x10” but no larger than 18”x24,” not including mat. The VFW offers “Get Excited for the Red, White/Blue” singing contest for two categories: K-8 / 9-12. Entrants will sing The Star Spangled Banner.
