Ford City Borough officials discuss the possibility of having borough police officers join new, regional police department

Pictured at a special meeting held Wednesday night at the Latin American Club, Ford City, to discuss the possibility of Ford City Borough Police Dept. officers becoming part of the new Southern Armstrong Regional Police Dept., (SARPD) are (from left) SARPD Chief Chris Fabec, Ford City Police Dept. Chief Scott Haslett; Ford City Mayor Tim Bureau, Councilwoman Vicki Schaub, Councilman Bryan Gilbertsen; Council President Carol Fenyes; Council Vice President Joshua Adams; Councilman Tom Ondrusek and Councilwoman Mary Alice Bryant.

An inability to attract new full-time police officers and a potentially steep increase in real estate taxes to maintain Ford City’s own police department as an independent entity are two factors that are leading the borough’s elected officials to instead consider having officers join the Southern Armstrong Regional Police Dept. (SARPD).

The new SARPD currently serves Gilpin Township and Freeport Borough.
